Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Keeley Modified Early Edition
Can there be any guitarists out there who have not used a Tube Screamer? I think not … but if you have not played a Fender Strat through one into a 6L6 loaded valve amp you haven’t lived … that combination is a match made in heaven!
Over the years, plenty of TS-related discussion appeared on the Internet, and over time, lot of myths and urban legends were created. When Robert Keeley and Analogman began converting modern TS versions to the original 808 specs and sprucing up the circuit with different, cool modifications, a real boom started, which continues today.
Here for sale is an early used Keeley modified TS9 pedal from the era when he only modified this particular unit, and before he expanded his company to encompass other brands such as Boss etc.
Needless to say, it sounds amazing, giving that classic Tube Screamer sound but fuller, more articulate & with a wider range of tones. Juicy springs to me mind as we are in a Deli after all!
Specification & Features
Every component added is of the highest quality. There are metal film resistors in the circuit to improve the signal to noise ratio many guitarists desire. Film capacitors are used in the tone section to provide the smoothest midrange and high frequency components to your tone while increasing the bass response of the pedal.
The choice of capacitors for the unique Tone Cap mod is to increase the low- end tone of your guitar without the slightest bit of muddiness or dullness to your tone. It is not a bass boost. The integrated circuit is the Texas Instruments RC4558P. This chip was chosen because it provides the best sound quality available.
All of the stock TS9 settings are possible throughout the midrange of the control. Plus, none of the singing sweet midrange tone is gone!
Here are some sample settings;
• All Controls set at 1+/- O’clock, nice starting position, good biting drive and gain.
• Set the Level to 3 O’clock, Drive at 9 O’clock, tone anywhere that sounds good to you. This is a good clean boost and great for distorting the input of a tube amp.
• Set the Level to 4 O’clock, Drive off, this is a SUPER clean boost.
• Set Drive to 4 O’clock and the Level to 12 O’clock. This is a super sustain setting. Great for lead work that is very saturated yet retains the essence of your guitar!
The pedal is well used & shows signs of wear and tear, however it works perfectly and includes the beautiful bright blue LED light when engaged. No original box sorry, but it will be posted in a used Marshall effects pedal box which does the job.
